wooooooo. i just went and saw metropolis with my mom - it's that new anime movie at kendall square.

holy mackerel.

wow, that movie is incredible. the only problem is that it gives you a wee bit of a splitting headache, but it's totally worth it. it's subtitled badly, though - the text they use is kind of for *@#^!&$!@, but again, it's totally worth it. it's very, very metaphorical - as all good anime should be - and very, very confusing. the animation is insanely good.

i really want to try to write my thoughts about it down, but that would be spoilery, and i've already written about vg in my past entry. =/ but whatever... as many have said before, this is MY goddamn diary. so suck up and deal.

anyway. *clears her throat and starts to talk smart* what i found most profound and interesting was that though tima represented the "wrath of god," punishing the humans for building the ziggurat (another tower in babylon) and mistreating the robots (as whites mistreated slaves back around the industrial revolution), rock was the actual executer (sp?). see, when the robots were storming the room and they were about to kill duke red, rock was like "HAOHGSGHWUIGYTOIW!!!!!" and he pushed that button, remember? thus destroying ziggurat and ultimately backfiring bigtime - aka, putting an end to basically everyone. so... that's what i didn't quite understand.

and then atlas the revolutionary. his name was obviously symbolic, but nothing important seemed to happen when he died. he sort of faded out of the picture. i mean, he was the one who BEGAN the revolution by destroying pero, but the revolutionaries paid most dearly in the end. they were set up, right? but i didn't understand that either - by whom? the guy who was against duke red and was betrayed by the other guy? o_O and then i thought the man who betrayed duke red's rival sort of represented the s or something. whew... well, that's what i thought. sorry if this is kind of disjointed. do you understand any of it?

and then i realized in the beginning when kenichi was teaching tima the words for "i," "you," "she," "he," "me," etc... this must have been further confusing for her. first of all she's not familiar with the idea of pronouns - using simple words to identify yourself? that mustn't have seemed right to her. especially when she was a robot, programmed to not have "emotions" or "free will" etc. hmmm... and then what was up with the irradiation? see, the problem with me is once i find an explanation for something, it's hard for me to think out of the box again. so once i realized that they were using biblical terms as metaphors, i started to think, "wait - but that's not in the story. what does irradiation represent? who is tima? WHERE AM I?!"

and the movie - my mom pointed out - seemed to be like one big identity crisis. the humans were tyrants and the robots were the victims. their protests were silenced almost immediately. this went for "lower" humans as well, the ones who lived in zone-2 and the poverty stricken parts of zone-1. so then in the end, who was the punisher? tima died, atlas died, all the revolutionaries died, duke red died... er... EVERYONE died. but kenichi lived on, with the robots. and that didn't make sense either. when his uncle, ban, left in that airship - wtf?! was he leaving him to live with the robots in zone-2? EXCUSE ME? i'm sorry, but what?

whew. god. that was a really confusing movie. i need to see it six more times, at least.

however, on a simpler note... atlas was really hot. :D

anyway. i did some layout tweaks and stuff, because my new complete obsession is velvet goldmine so i thought i'd change my layout so you'd all know. yep. i'm having some trouble with the tables and all, but i'll change that later. oh, and since i update a lot - more than once a day sometimes, haha - i put an "older entries" table at the bottom so you can see my last five entries. so if you've missed any entries etc, yeah. i'm sure you can figure out what it's for, haha.

so that's it... i'm hungry and my fingers hurt, and my brain hurts from thinking waaaay too much. *whew*
