the sigur ros bible

i've been kind of getting on a sigur ros kick lately since they're doing a UK tour in the fall and that only means a US tour must follow. i've been reading articles and stuff and picking up cool bits of infortmation about them and every few minutes, my awe, admiration and affection (marvel at my professionally trained alliteration skills) for them grows a hundredfold.

and, because i want everyone to learn to appreciate sigur ros just as much as i do, i'm going to make a list of all the coolest things about them.

- jonsi is blind in one eye. i find that kind of amazing. i would go into all the reasons why that's funky but i won't. just accept the fact that jonsi is cooler than you will ever be.

- the boys of sigur ros actually glued together all the first copies of their second cd, agaetis byrjun, themselves. i almost died at the severe level of cuteness when i learned that. it's so sweet and devoted.

- i think it was georg, the bassist, whose nickname is 'white fang' because he can allegedly catch trout with his teeth. (DON'T TELL ME YOU DIDN'T JUST LAUGH AT THAT, BECAUSE YOU TOTALLY DID.)

- jonsi was in two bands before sigur ros, both equally odd: "bee spiders" and "stoned". riiight.

- sigur ros is actually named after jonsi's itty bitty little sister, who should be around eight years old or so by now. and she's hella cute!

- they regularly play shows in CATHEDRALS... that's pretty amazing. i highly doubt you'll ever see a strokes show in a cathedral. (bright eyes plays church shows, though, don't they?)

- while recording their first album, the boys painted the studio they used as a payment for their studio time.

that's all i can think of right now... but so far so good, right? if you don't at least have crushes on most of the members of the band right now then you are a heartless soulsucking parasite.

the one thing that bothers me about all the articles i read and stuff is that EVERYONE says jonsi's voice sounds like a woman. NO, I'M SORRY, BUT YOU ARE HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY WRONG. i knew right away that jonsi was male. i do NOT see the feminine thing that everyone's making a fuss about. dude, to the next person who says jonsi sounds like chick - go listen to some JJ72 and THEN get back to me.

jonsi said this really cute thing, though... someone told him he sounded womanly and he was like "yes, i'm very in touch with my feminine side..." i was like, it's TRUE! gayness DOES transcend language barriers! i was just like, you are so cute mister jonsi birgisson because you can't speak english for beans and yet you just rattled off one of the best english phrases ever.

i also heard that on future albums, jonsi will speak english. i got really excited about that. i don't know why, but i'd love to hear jonsi speak english. not that icelandic isn't one of the most beautiful things in the world coming out of his mouth but english would be interesting. i'd almost like to see sigur ros have huge american success... imagine jonsi in a tux at a bunch of chintzy, cheesy movie previews. it would be mind-boggling.

this is getting WAY out of hand... i think i'm going to go work on the next chapter of my sigur ros fic and just shut my mouth until this temporary obsession blows over.
